Sometimes we want to share wireless connection on our laptop with others. Now with Windows 10 and the free app “Virtual Router” you can make this happen.
1. Download and install the app – Go to the Virtual Router’s homepage, download and install the app.
2. Configure your network – Fill out the name of your network and the password you’ll use. Then select the connection you want to share from the drop-down link. The choice will depend from the way you’ll be connected. If you’re connected over Ethernet, choose the Ethernet connection. If you’re connected to the Internet over WiFi, select your WiFi device. Then click “Start Virtual Router.”
3. Make sure your connection sharing is enabled – Go to the Start menu for “View network connections”. Then find your connection you want to share and right-click on the device. Choose “Properties.” Look at the “Sharing” tab of the “Properties” field and make sure the box “Allow other network users to connect through this computer’s Internet connection” is checked.
4. Connect from another device – Connect your laptop’s WiFi hotspot as usual. Then select the network name and password. The Virtual Router app will show the IP address of the device and its MAC address.
5. Stop the app when you’re done – Click “Stop Virtual Router” to stop it and you can start it up again when necessary.
